It's all part of a vast conspiracy

You've heard about the meeting that will take place today between Gen. McChrystal and President Obama, but what you may not have heard about is the conspiracy behind the General's remarks that lead up to this meeting.1. Al-Qaeda had this planned all along as part of a fatwa that was issued during the first Gulf war, and then restated when the war in Iraq began. Anything to discredit an American president, and make the military...

Senate Turns Down Extension of Unemployment Benefits

The Republicrats in the Senate gave a big middle finger to the long-term unemployed yesterday, as 12 Democrats joined all the Republicans in voting down the extension of unemployment benefits, citing their hypocritical concerns about increasing the deficit as the reason: "I've said all along that we have to be able to pay for what we're spending," said Sen. Ben Nelson, a Nebraska Democrat who voted against the bill. "$77 billion or more of this...

Another Spill---This Time in Utah

Same song, different verse:"A leak from Chevron's underground oil pipeline may have gone undetected for hours as it spilled 50 gallons of crude a minute Saturday into Salt Lake City's Red Butte Creek...Chevron pledged to clean up the 6-mile mess, but the company could not quantify he damage. As of late Saturday, Chevron said the leak had been stopped. But company representatives could not say when it began, how much oil spilled into city waterways...
I'm confused. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour said on Fox News Sunday last week that "we have had virtually no oil" on the beaches of his state:<br />He repeated it to John King on CNN:"We have not had any of oil onto Mississippi's beaches. We had one intrusion on one of the barrier islands. It came up one day and washed out the next day and left no uhh... you couldn't even tell it had even...

Les Kinsolving of World Nut Net Daily at Thursday's briefing with Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, asking not only about President Obama's birth certificate (again) but his Social Security number as well. From Mediaite:...

"I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowersConsultin' with the rain. And my head I'd be scratchin' whilemy thoughts were busy hatchin'If I only had a brain.I would not be just a nothin' my head all full of stuffin'My heart all full of pain.I would dance and be merry, life would be a ding-a-derry,If I only had a brain."Everyone's favorite loony tune, Congresswoman Michele Bachman, was interviewed by Ben Shapiro of biggovernment.com recently. Quoting...
As America's longest war drags on, and on, and on.... the two operative phrases seem to be " still a long way to go" and "taking longer than expected." In Marja (McChrystal's "bleeding ulcer") : "Residents of this onetime Taliban sanctuary see signs that the insurgents have regained momentum in recent weeks, despite early claims of success by U.S. Marines. The longer-than-expected effort to secure Marja is prompting alarm among top American commanders that they...

Lucky Harry

I hope Harry Reid made a stop this morning at Caesar' s Palace or the Golden Nugget and put down a very large wager on his favorite game of chance. In spite of approval ratings hovering in the 30's, Sen. Reid has to feel like the luckiest man in the state of Nevada after the results of last night's Republican primary contest to decide his challenger in November. Who woulda thunk that of the 2...

Prospects for Real Financial Reform Don't Look Good

Financial reform is once again on the agenda as the House--Senate conference committee attempts to reconcile the differences between the 2 bills beginning on Thursday. This article from McClatchy doesn't give me reason to be optimistic about the outcome:"A group of lawmakers who are about to write an historic overhaul of the nation's financial regulatory system has been stacked carefully with veteran compromisers -- and one wild card.""Veteran compromisers." To me, that translates into someone...

Pragmatism Defined

As usual a response of mine has created some stir. I would love to respond with a pithy comeback, but I thought I should explore some things point by point in a respectful manner. The issue before was the issue of prosecuting an ex-president, but could just as easily be levied on another issue. A phrase was used in one of the letter responses that didn't anger me so much as it made me chuckle....
