Fox News gets their share of criticism here, because as the late John Houseman would say, they have uuuhhned it. But in the giving credit where credit is due department, there was an exchange between Shepard Smith and Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) yesterday over the merits of the public option. Smith makes a stronger case for the public option than have many, if not most, of our elected officials in D.C., including pointing out both...

A Little Slight of Hand by Former Pastor Huckabee

On September 29th on Countdown Eric Burns, president of Media Matters, said of Fox News, "This is no longer a news organization, this is a political organization." Case in point; here's Mike Huckabee on his own show on Fox, and also on Greta Van Susteren's propaganda hour, asking viewers to go to something called balancecutsave.com and sign a petition calling on Congress to "balance the budget, cut their spending, and save American families." Watch:
What...

Slacktivism

I learn something new every day, usually from people who are younger than I am and who haven't developed the jaded or cynical or hard-headed perspective that I have as an adult. This one comes from a couple of young folks I know. We'll start with my 23-y-o highly intelligent, Georgetown graduated, extremely idealistic, somewhat pretentious, annoyingly talented, raconteur nephew who writes regularly (lately at http://www.echoditto.com/blogs/bryn-bellomy) and introduced me to a new term. See wiki definition below...

Secession is Discussed on Fox News' "Freedom Watch"

This is what now passes for a topic worthy of serious discussion on Fox News. Judge Andrew Napolitano and his guest Lew Rockwell on a program called, of all things, Freedom Watch, talking about secession and nullification. Watch:
What Judge Napolitano and Mr. Rockwell are talking about used to be called treason, and was punishable by execution. Now it's called "Fair and Balanced."Sad but true. ...
I know I said no politics today, but forgive me, this is too good to pass up.Last night Sean Hannity and his two guests were discussing the video that has Fox News, talk radio, and the right-wing blogosphere about to soil themselves-the one of the elementary school children in New Jersey singing about President Obama. They start off with the usual "programming the youth" nonsense, then Hannity says this:"I have no patience for indoctrinating or...
Desperado and Eljefebob have both covered this story, so I'll post without (much) comment. You'll remember that Fox News ran this Ad (using CNN's photograph, no less) claiming to be the only network that reports "All the News (that it creates)": Here is CNN's Response: If you can't trust Fox News to be truthful even in advertising....? Let's face it. It's just another example of the biased right wing media claiming the mainstream media...

Fox News, "You Lie"

Oh what a tangled web we weave..."The Washington Post ran a full-page instigating ad in today's paper from Fox News that asks: "How Did ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC And CNN Miss This Story?" referring to the D.C. tea party protests on 9/12."Wrong on all counts:"NBC News had crews on the mall...A Nightly News spokesperson tells TVNewser, "and more than 5.2 million viewers watched our coverage." It was Weekend Nightly's best Total Viewer delivery since April....
As a sideline to Scott's earlier blog, it turns out some of those aerial photos of the protesters that descended upon Washington, D.C. this weekend might be fake. At least one is. The photograph shown here was touted by Say Anything, a conservative blog, as reasonable justification for the claim of 1,000,000 attendees. A sharp reader on the site posted the following photograph, proving that the above picture was taken before the National Museum of the American...

Are the White Coats far behind?

Sometimes I catch myself saying that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Bill O'Reilly are stupid racists pedaling ignorance. The fact is that I got half of that right. They are pedaling ignorance, but I believe those people know exactly what they are doing. We on the left (or center) complain incessantly about them while they run all the way to the bank. Their party is shrinking and they are still laughing at home with their...
The torture-defending spokespersons for the Republican Party were on full display yesterday on the Sunday news shows. First there was Papa Dick Cheney stopping by Fox News Sunday for a softball game with Chris Wallace, what Andrew Sullivan aptly named, A Teenage Girl Interviewing the Jonas Brothers. Then we had daughter Liz on This Week making some incredible claims (even for Liz, and that's saying something) about the Bush Justice Department. Finally, John McCain on...
