Today, the presidential oil spill commission issued its final report concluding that the blowout of BP's Macondo well was certainly preventable, was caused by identifiable mistakes made by BP and its contractors, and resulted from complacency and poor risk management--placing doubt on the safety culture of the oil and gas industry as a whole. The commission also pointed out that the regulatory agencies charged with oversight were outclassed by the industry and failed to keep...

I was on Al Jazeera English last night, talking about the preview release of part of the President's oil spill commission report. Have a look:...
Yesterday, the President's oil spill commission issued one chapter of its report to be released in total on January 11. The released chapter, Chapter 4, goes through the commission's recounting of the events leading up to the blowout and its own conclusions about causes. No new information was revealed in the released chapter, though the commission continues to spread blame, primarily to BP, Transocean, and Halliburton. It also blamed failures of the industry and government...

I was honored today to be recognized by Jerry Remmers of The Moderate Voice for our coverage of the BP Macondo well blowout. In his piece he said, "Rather than beating a cemetery of dead horses, I will honor one person who made sense of it all -- Bob Cavnar of the Daily Hurricane website and author of "Disaster on the Horizon.""Thank you, Jerry. That means a lot....
Harry Weber, a reporter for the AP, disputed the New York Times' BP well blowout story the we posted on Sunday. Calling some of their claims "patently false", Weber asserted that many facts that the Times reported as new had actually been reported by the AP as early as May. While I thought the Times story was an excellent recount with very good graphics, I have to agree that much of the story had already...
This morning, the New York Times published an excellent account of the Macondo well blowout and the events surrounding the catastrophe. The graphics of the rig are the best I've seen to date....
