Merry Christmas to the Neocons' Hero

We all remember how Jack Bauer of 24 was idolized by the Neocons for torturing terror suspects on the network television series.  Here's a different take on his tactic, just for the Holidays.  Presented without further comment:...
Well known for selling books she didn't write, Sarah Palin's name appeared on an opinion piece in the Washington Post this morning that she also probably didn't write.  Why do I say that?  Because it was in complete sentences with subjects, verbs, and everything.  Does it express her opinions?  Absolutely.  Why do I say that?  Because the piece is simple minded, full of mischaracterizations, distortions, and outright lies, pushing politicized, knee jerk, "conservative" talking points. ...
Since Olbermann's one-hour special comment, posted on the Daily Hurricane here, where he called for donations to the National Association of Free Clinics to enable free clinics in the states with blue dog Democrat senators that intend to vote no on the public option. On the November 12 episode of Countdown with Keith Olbermann, he said "Twenty-thousand of you . . . have now donated one million seven hundred thousand dollars since Countdown first brought this subject...
I guess we already knew they made stuff up over at Fox News.  I guess they figured their viewers weren't smart enough to figure it out?  Fox News,  "You Lie!"   The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c Sean Hannity Uses Glenn Beck's Protest Footage www.thedailyshow.com Daily ShowFull Episodes Political Humor Health Care Crisis...
I'm currently enjoying No Ordinary Time:  Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt:  The Home Front in World War II.  It's a nice, light read about those who lived in the White House during the Roosevelt administration and how they affected the president and public policy.  The anecdotes I'm learning from the book are numerous, but one in particular struck me, especially in its comparison to our political climate today. During World War II, in order to ensure...

The Chicken or the Egg

The debate over the chicken or the egg is a common one even if you don't have a chicken or egg handy. It can be spread to just about any discipline you want. Today, it will be used in the field of politics. As an amateur political scientist (with only a Bachelor's Degree) I love to delve into these political questions of the day. As we have noticed, there has been a sudden breakdown in...

Houston Tea Party

Yesterday, Desperado and I attended the angry mob tea party in the parking lot of the Sam Houston Race Track.  Hundreds showed up to voice their concern about a black president and losing an election  higher taxes and government spending.  One gentleman was so kind as to let us know that Obama couldn't be prosecuted for treason because he's not a citizen - instead - he can be prosecuted for espionage.  From Kenya, I assume?...

Tea Party Crazies Go to Washington

The AWRA (Angry White Republican Astroturfers) held their "press conference" on the steps of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. yesterday, so named because they didn't have a permit for a "rally." The speakers at this event planned and coordinated by Americans for Prosperity spontaneous gathering of concerned Americans who aren't about party, just happened to all be Republicans, and also all white (with the exception of George Hamilton John Boehner), but I'm being redundant. Here's...

One Year Later

With all deference to Desperado, I wanted to piggy back on his idea of looking back at the last year since Obama was elected president. However, instead of evaluating his performance, I wanted to take a look at the political landscape. Obama made a lot of noise about changing the tone in Washington. He wasn't the first and he won't be the last. George W. Bush made the same pledge when he went to Washington....

A Referendum on President Obama? Nope

Despite the screaming headline in the New York Post, the Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post, that "The Obama Magic Has Faded," last night's election results and exit polls tell a different story. A little analysis and perspective:* In the race for Congress in the 23rd district of New York, Doug Hoffman, the darling of the far-right extremists, lost. Eljefebob has the analysis on this, so I'll move on to New Jersey and Virginia.* In what...
