"Goldline" Glenn Assigns Himself a Place in American History

An SAT-like question: Which of the following is unlike the others?

A. George Washington

B. Abraham Lincoln

C. Frederick Douglass

D. Thomas Edison

E. Henry Ford

F. Martin Luther King Jr.

H. "Goldline" Glenn Beck

I. There is no difference, they're all great figures in American history.

If you answered "I" either your name is Glenn Beck or you're one of the sheep on the way to Washington for the great Saturday fleecing. Watch as much as you can of this promotional video for Beck's so-called "Restoring Honor" rally, and just imagine the outcry from "Goldline" Glenn and his followers if President Obama placed himself in such an historical context. (Caution: Have an ample supply of Pepto-Bismol nearby):

It's easy to laugh at this egomaniacal huckster and the fools who are so eagerly and willingly parted from their money by him, but take a minute to consider this:

"Yes, Beck is nuts. But he's also the most important figure in the Tea Party movement, which in case anyone hasn't noticed is in the process of taking over one of the two major parties in the most powerful nation in the world. You can deride these people, as I do every day. But it's a mistake to not take them seriously or underestimate their appeal in times like these.

No one should ever count on the people naturally seeing through demagogues. Their power lies in their ability to be convincing even when it doesn't make rational sense and the truly talented ones can change the world. It remains to be see if Beck and his fellow travelers have that kind of juice. But I wouldn't be so sanguine that they don't."

You're right.....I was thinking of the scene where he said, "I am so good, and they are so dumb."

Hey, it was late at night when I typed that.

Must go watch the movie again....

Pardon me while I whip this out.

...

Where are the white women at?

"You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons."

OK gang, now it's time for us all to bring in dialogue from our favorite "I Ching". ha!

"These people are such morons!"

Blazing Saddles still rules.....

It's time the guys in the white coats come get their newest client. What about this forthcoming "blindness" thing? Has he seeked the help of a faith healer?

I'm reminded of the line from Martin Short in The Three Amigos:

Ned (Short): Dusty (Chevy Chase's character) Dusty Dusty. Infamous means more than famous.

Wonder how many from the Faux news crowd took that line to heart.

I think there is some truth to that. I don't think I could stomach an episode of Glenn Beck's show, so I don't watch it. Ever. The only time I see him is when someone who can't stand him posts a video clip. If it weren't for his opposition, I would never be subjected to his lunacy.

But Fox "News" doesn't air any story that doesn't fit into their propaganda.

So maybe we should do likewise? Don't report on Palin's antics. Any of the Palins. Don't report on Beck or Limbaugh. Don't give them any publicity or attention.

Maybe they'd go away?

I am so sorry. I forgot. They also air Major League Baseball on Saturday afternoon after "Third Rock" re-runs.

I don't know what you're talking about. There's ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC News. FOX airs NFL football, "Bones" and "House".

Here's an idea: we all know how Faux News ignores any news they don't believe in. They don't like the message, it just doesn't get reported on.

I propose that all of the other media outlets - mainstream media, cable, everything....just totally - TOTALLY - ignore these whackjobs. Don't mention them. Don't give their names any airplay.

Might it be possible that they might then just wither and - figuratively - die? Just go away? After all, even bad publicity is publicity and they're getting tons.

Nah....it'd never happen. They would find some way to get face time in front of those cameras. They're all such media whores.

This shows that there is a difference between "famous" and "infamous".

I think we all know which side of THAT line Beck, Limbaugh, Palin, Cheney, Hannity, et al, are entrenched.

The trouble is that the word "important" isn't descriptive enough. All of them enacted POSITIVE change in America. That is where the rub comes in. Joseph McCarthy, George Wallace, John Wilkes Booth, and Dick Cheney are also important. The problem is equating important with good.

Sometimes you gotta "thin the heard".
I suggest we start with Beck.

"You can fool SOME of the people ALL of the time."

Seems Beck/Limboob fit the definition.

From the U.S. History Encyclopedia

Fire Eater
An outspoken group of Southern, proslavery extremists, the Fire-Eaters advocated secession from the Union and the formation of an independent confederacy as early as the 1840s. The group included a number of well-known champions of Southern sovereignty, including South Carolina newspaper editor Robert Barnwell Rhett, Virginia planter Edmund Ruffin, and William Lowndes Yancey, a radical Democrat from Alabama. Although Rhett, Ruffin, Yancey, and other Fire-Eaters were the chief spokesmen for confederacy, many moderate southerners who supported secession continued to distrust them and they seldom acquired responsible positions within the Confederate government.

I agree with you completely. I don't have a good feeling about Beck. I started sensing this about him 6 months or so ago, that he really was pushing an agenda to have Fascism here. Now with the economy going in the tank, and..I hate to say this, but a very likely taking of the House of Reps by the Repugs this Fall, he'll have more fuel and power to push his agenda.
I believe it is important to not fear this man or others like him. Fear is an attractor. Instead..keep telling the truth with wisdom and courage.

Sounds like the 1930's when cooler heads were watching Hitler in horror and telling others to not just dismiss him as a nut. Which he was.

Beck is crazy. Certifiably craaaaaaazy. But crazy people can be dangerous also and he certainly is.
