Roseto, Pennsylvania -
Our Lady of Mount Carmel held a "Big Time" fair and festival last weekend. One game sparked complaints. The image, of a black man holding a health bill and wearing a belt buckle with a rudimentary presidential seal drawn on it - was set up as a shooting target (Note the red circle bulls-eyes over the head and heart) for the general amusement of the parishioners. If you hit those targets, you receive a prize! Might I suggest a life sized stuffed Klansman?
The Big Time fair was set up by Goodtime Amusements, who claimed they were exercising their right to free speech. Word has it Fox News and conservative ditto-heads have not yet reported this story, as there are not any images of Goodtime Amusements employees appearing to be African-American.
The local newspaper, the Express-Times, reports:
Even though the game shows a black man dressed in a suit, holding a scroll labeled "health bill" and wearing a belt buckle that features the presidential seal, Goodtime Amusements President Irvin L. Good Jr. said the image does not portray President Obama.
Good reports speaking to two people with complaints about the game. Of one complainant, he said, "She said she was offended by it. I said if you are, you might want to be. But you're interpreting it as being Obama. We're not interpreting it as Obama."
Richard Shultz, said he would have complained no matter the political party of the president depicted.
"The message ... step right up and shoot the president -- I mean, c'mon," he said. "In my lifetime, two presidents have been shot and I don't think we should have that as an amusement game."
The Rev. Jim Prior, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, said he would have put a stop to the game had he seen it during the carnival. A parishioner didn't complain until after Big Time was over, he said.
If you'd like to make a suggestion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church regarding future games and prizes at their Big Time carnival, you can find their contact information here.
The owner of Goodtime amusements has since apologized, saying he himself was an Obama voter and takes full responsibility. "I guess we made an error in judgment, and we apologize for that." The game no longer exists. The secret service is now investigating.
Readers, please note: I usually do not censor comments, however, any comments justifying this display because somewhere, somehow, someone may have done something like this to a Republican in effigy will not be permitted and will be deleted. This is wrong no matter who does it, when, and for whatever reason. There is nothing funny, cute or amusing about any simulated Presidential assassination.

you've got it exactly.... The reason why these folks are always stunned when someone objects to one of their puerile stunts is that deep down they actually believe that everyone agrees with them. You think they would have the testicular fortitude to pull a knobber like this if they thought they were in mixed company?
not smeeping likely...
Remember that to them, liberal america consists of four or five people in a coffee house in Hollywood plotting on how best to take all their stuff and corrupt their children,
Hmm.... Black man in a suit with health bill scroll and presidential seal on the belt buckle, but it wasn't meant to portray President Obama? It was all just some really, really weird coincidence?
(Cue Twilight Zone theme here).
They may be trying to sell it, but I ain't buying!
"Goodtime Amusements President Irvin L. Good Jr. said the image does not portray President Obama"
Hum, so which other black President with a health bill were they referring to?
"I guess we made an error in judgment..." There's no "guess" about it. It's despicable any way he spins it. This is what I don't understand about these wingnuts; unless they are providing amusements for the klan, where in hell would this be okay with 100% of the people? The wingnuts are crazy enough to believe everyone agrees with their positions and are as stupid as they are. This kind of shit really bothers me.
These people are sick. Hope they are arrested, charged and fined!
It's all a little weird...paintball? Catholic school? The Catholic school I went to if somebody tried a stunt like that they would have called the FBI (of course, back in those days there was no such thing as a black President).
I taught at the Houston version of that school. I am ashamed to be anywhere associated. All I can say is I hope people don't think of u's all the same.
Okay, I'll bite. Let's go ahead and say it wasn't depicting Obama. Is it okay to shoot an unarmed man? What kind of message does that send. Since my print will come out larger than Kelly's disclaimer let me repeat what she said in another way. There are some things in this world that are inexcusable and have to labeled as such. No roundabout "you do it too" should be offered. I immediately call bullshit on anyone claiming such.
WWJD?
What is that church teaching those good little Catholic children? That it's ok to shoot at a scary black man, whether or not it's supposed to represent Pres. Obama? Even if it isn't (and of course it is...we weren't born yesterday, you foolish teabaggers), what part of "thou shalt not kill" did you not comprehend from the Bible?
This. Is. Just. Wrong.
On so many levels. And why so many people who "claim" to be Christians really are not.
And I love your disclaimer. Of course that means that certain of our "friends" from the chron won't be commenting here. I can just hear them shrieking in dismay right now.
Agreed, AGK...there's nothing acceptable about threatening any President of the United States, whether it's meant as a joke or not.
