MSNBC is showing video of US troops leaving Iraq, heading for the Kuwait border. The Army's 4th Stryker Bridage Combat Team is escorting the last 14,000 combat troops out of Iraq. It's a good step, in my opinion, but the US government is still leaving behind 50,000 "advisors" which is disconcertingly reminiscent of the Viet Nam exit strategy. If they are truly used for training and support, all the better, but this shameful chapter of US history is long from closed, and won't be until all our our folks are home.
I'm not ready to start tossing babies in the air and slapping high-fives, but, this is a solid step.
Good for us.

The BIG question here, Did we LEARN anything from this adventure?
Dear God, I hope so. $800 Billion or so and over 5,000 lives of our "best and brightest" citizens sacrificed not to mention the wounded and permanently disabled.
ioinkthere is correct and I didn't mention that. There will also be contractors remaining behind to carry out the functions that before war became privatized, our troops would have done.
By hook or by crook the oil companies are going to be allowed to do their business uninterrupted, unless the American people stand up to this atrocity.
Don't forget all the mercenaries who will supplement the 50,000 US military remaining in Iraq. The USA footprint is smaller, but this story is far from over and the outcome still unclear.
As most people around the world know, the Iraq war was about oil. Specifically getting access to it for the giant oil companies. Because this is true, we are going to leave many thousand of troops in Iraq on end for the purpose of seeing that the oil companies are able to do business with out too many disruptions. These companies have moved in and signed contracts with the Government we installed, worth billions of dollars. Mission accomplished. We are "suppose" to pull the remaining 50,000 troops out at the end of 2011, but I've done some digging, and this is going to be negotiated with the Iraqi government, thus assuring protection for the oil companies. Many many years before the invasion in 2003 people were protesting with signs saying that the U.S. was going to have this war on Iraq. This was on their radar long before any one else. How did they know this, and what was their reason for believing that? Because they studied U.S. history. Guess what was on those signs? "It's about the oil" Now that the evidence is in, and all the other reasons for the war given by the Bush administration.(WMD, terrorist threat e.t.c) have fallen away, only one reason remains standing, and the proof is right in front of us.
Only a fool would believe otherwise, and only a fool would believe we went to all that effort, to get the oil, and now were leaving, and leaving any decisions about what happens the the Iraqi oil, up to the Iraqi people.
Hope that won't be the case Hose'.
Would be nice if every Country would just get along and help each other, even though they might not agree on things.
Wish things could be that simple.
Do you think that would happen if I told every Country that's what I wanted for my 59th Birthday?
HMMM..Didn't think so..
Well at least for now, we can enjoy the idea that they are coming home to their family's
~~WELCOME BACK HOME ~~
We are deploying 4000 troops to Iran in Nov don't listen to Washington BS
US PULLS COMBAT TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ...
...to deploy them in IRAN
I agree with you, good for us this is a solid step, but it's not over until everyone is home.
Thanks Bob
