MSNBC Reports:
The federal judge who overturned California's same-sex marriage ban ruled Thursday that gay marriages can resume starting Aug. 18.
The decision by Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker means gay and lesbian couples will have to wait six days before they can get married. That gives gay marriage opponents time to appeal to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. If the appeals court fails to act by 5 p.m. local time next Wednesday, then gay marriages can go forward.
This ruling comes on the day Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight reports public sentiment over gay marriage has changed drastically since 1988.

The motivation behind those that still oppose same-sex marriage can be split into two categories: Those that fear that which they do not understand and those that hate what they do not understand. Those that fear what they do not understand will eventually come around with education and once they see that same-sex marriage is truly no threat to our nation or the institution of marriage'. They will realize that same-sex marriage isn't granting new rights to a group of people, it is simply honoring and recognizing rights that have always existed but have been denied. Those motivated by hate? They probably won't come around. But they are becoming, finally, the minority.

Guess I'm the minority.
Marriage to me is a holy reunion that was instituted by God. It was Gods plan for a Man and a Woman to be together. Gods' word and his plan is unchangeable.
I do realize not everyone believes this. We all have free will to choose.
I am not opposed to a contract. Making it possible to be a same sex legal partner, so they also can receive the same benefits and rights.
This isn't about hatred, it is about religious beliefs about marriage.
excellent BTW points, freeportguy, but there you guys go again bringing reason to an emotional issue for the GOP!
Can I just say that I really enjoy watching their little heads explode over this issue, and then seeing them go down in flames (pun intended) when one of them gets caught with his hand in someone else's something-something ... I guess I've always enjoyed watching hypocrites burn.
I don't think this "issue" will ever go away. But it seems that wwe are making progess, at least, in the legal venues.
Generally speaking, a majority will ALWAYS be AGAINST any motion to be granted to a minority.
It is the responsibility of the elected officials to ensure the protection of the minorities, as opposed to giving in to the majority.
BTW1: the legalization of same sex marriage would oblige no one to do anything they don't want to do, so why should opponents care?
BTW2: whether or not same sex marriage is legalized or not will have NO impact on the number of gay people (increase or decrease), so so why should opponents care?
