"Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, currently running third in the state's Republican gubernatorial primary race, says he's not sure if Constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion apply to the followers of the world's second-largest faith, Islam.
At a recent event in Hamilton County, Ramsey was asked by a man in the audience about the "threat that's invading our country from the Muslims." Ramsey proclaimed his support for the Constitution and the whole "Congress shall make no law" thing when it comes to religion. But he also said that Islam, arguably, is less a faith than it is a "cult."
"Now, you could even argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion, or is it a nationality, way of life, cult whatever you want to call it," Ramsey said. "Now certainly we do protect our religions, but at the same time this is something we are going to have to face."

"Now, you know, I'm all about freedom of religion. I value the First Amendment as much as I value the Second Amendment as much as I value the Tenth Amendment and on and on and on," he said. "But you cross the line when they try to start bringing Sharia Law here to the state of Tennessee -- to the United States. We live under our Constitution and they live under our Constitution."
Ramsey's "all about freedom of religion" to be sure. Everyone is free to attend the Southern Baptist Church of their choice.

I've said many, many times: there is but a hairsbreadth of difference between an Islamic fundamentalist and a Christian fundamentalist. It's all about control. The God thing; well, that's just a helpful "tool" to control the masses.
If they were in charge here.....well....just read the history books on what life in Puritan New England was like. Stocks in the town square; forced attendance at the right church on Sunday, witchhunts in Salem, MA. These dunderheads have their heads stuck squarely in the 15th century.
If they were in control they would be every bit as repressive as those they revile. PALIN FOR AYATOLLAH!!!
my pleasure...dang that's an evil laugh...
pfft, just sensationalist pap for the peanut gallery to holler "right on!" to. kinda sucks that a person seriously running for office must first appeal to the basest instincts of their constituency. Sucks even harder that SOME people around here won't support a candidate unless they state that it's okay to hate those guys over there(you know, the DIFFERENT guys)
Couldn't possibly apply to followers of the world's second largest faith! What heresy! The utter gall of those dang a-rabs!
".mwahahahahaha" (thanks, alienHunter!)
fortunately the Bill of Rights was already voted on & passed - by the original ' originalists ' as I recall.
oh, and the original originalists intended those Rights to be un-abridgable, as they contemplated a majority might err from time to time in wanting to limit individual Rights for one bogus reason or another.
always in awe how well they knew human nature; guess that's because of what they had gone through and seen others go through.
I was reading today that there are passages in the Koran that refer to Christianity as the "Guardians of the Covenant". What covenant and why are we told that they are trying to kill us...mwahahahahaha

That reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer skipped church. He almost burned down his house and was saved by Flanders (a Christian), Krusty (a Hebrew), and Apu (a Hindu). Rev. Lovejoy says, "you were saved by Christians, a Jew, and other." Apu responds by saying, "Hindu, there more than a billion of u's." Lovejoy says, "that's super."
When I taught World History I made sure to cover all of the major religions well. If they learned anything they learned that.
I saw a similar story about an Indiana school district that blocked all religious inquiry on any religion besides Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Freedom of religion as long as you pick from the three state-approved religions I guess.
Yep...freedom of religion.
THEIR own religion of course. All others....meh, not so much.
What they REALLY REALLY REALLY want is a theocracy. Of their own choosing.
