Photos of Bob's Deepwater Horizon Site Visit

Here are a few pics of the trip I took with Kerry Sanders and a veteran NBC News crew to the Deepwater Horizon site the last couple of days.  I'll be writing about this trip in coming days as I gather my thoughts.

Bob with Kerry Sanders and his crew.  Several of these guys were embedded with US troops during the invasion of Iraq:

The Bloom Mobile, named for David Bloom, who died during the invasion of Iraq.  He had pushed this design to allow for live satellite coverage while moving.  It is now used for hurricanes and other harsh environments.

This was the first broadcast of its kind where you could get a live HD satellite feed from open water.  I'll post more about this trip when I get back to Houston tonight.

Unfortunately, much of the Horizon is just a burnt hulk of melted steel. It's likely that there are no bodies there after burning oil and diesel fuel consumed most of the above the water line structure for two days. You can bet, though, that they've been trying to retrieve data and video tapes, as well as cement samples and other important data, if it remains intact.

What about the wreck of the Deepwater Horizon? I have heard nothing about it on any news outlet whatsoever. The only thing that I have been able to find out about it is that it sits about a quarter mile away from the well.

I do not understand how it can just lay forgotten in a heap. One would think that there would be at least a little more curiosity about the fate of the 11 missing men. Some of whom are likely still on the remains of the ship.

I certainly did mean dispersants instead of disbursements...

While Trojans are reported to have a failure rate of about 12%, I believe that post has a "failure" of less than 2%.

Here's the link to the LIVE FEEDS from underwater all on one page to see.

Your welcome.

I think they mean "dispersants".

Yes, I've gotten several complaints and we're looking at it. If you can email me specifics it would be helpful.

and about the disbursements, we are surrounded in our everyday lives with poisons, toxins, additives like propylene glycol (silicone dow sells as "bio" product and put into all our shampoo's, anti-freeze and ice cream alike). curiously we are also entering a time when cancers are both commonplace and except in some cases treatable. these disbursements just add another dimension, another layer to our chromosomes. watch mike judge's "idiocracy" again and wonder if brawndo the thirst mutilator will soon be watering our crops!

off the topic but i see others are having difficulty with the hurricane site. my post on another thread double posted after problems submitting, and lately when i log in i have many problems with the site. anything you recommend to fix this?

Bob, I have to congratulate you on the excellent coverage of this disaster. You've explained so many things in ways that have helped me understand the technical details. This entire disaster is so mind boggling - taking it all in is really difficult. I understood you to say that disbursements are still being used - I don't understand why there is no push back on this issue when you have stated they are 4X more toxic than the oil. Is there any way to get BP to stop using the disbursements? Have you heard of any group working for this? Also, we've heard so many excuses as to why the super tankers are not being brought in - one was the Jones Act would have to be modified - is there anything happening in Congress for this modification, or is this just more BS stated for the purpose of rationalization and obfuscation? Thanks again for your efforts in helping us understand this.
