Fox News opined that the runner-up, Miss Oklahoma, Morgan Elizabeth Woolard, lost her chance at the crown because she voiced support for Arizona's controversial new immigration law.
Daniel Pipes said Fakih's victory was clearly a case of political correctness and affirmative action run amok.
Now let's look at the evidence:

Saw her on Letterman last night doing the Top 10. She did a good job. Great personality, good sense of humor. There is NOTHING I hate more than praising Donald Trump for anything. But he and his staff did a good job here. I predict this woman will be a star, not just another "former" Miss USA. Just watch. I'm pretty good at this.

My wife and I are BIG pageant watchers. Have been for over 30 years. The Miss USA overtook Miss America because the prize money is BIG, BIG, BIG. Even just 20 years ago, when the contestants would come out at the beginning of the show, you could eliminate about 30-35 right off the bat.
Sunday, I think out of the whole bunch, the only ones who were "out of the running" were the usual suspects, Vermont, Idaho, Wisconsin, and Delaware. When they named the 15 semis, they left a WHOLE BUNCH of talent on that stage.
Being a former travel agent, I've been around. As Andy Taylor of Mayberry would say..."They ain't no women in the world as purdy as 'Merican women. The moon cain't hold a candle to'em." These ladies prove that without a doubt.
Between Donald Trump and his "star-studded", hand picked, judges, I'm pretty sure the decision was as "honest" as "The Donald" could make it. Keeping in mind my earlier post on who, exactly, OWNS the pageant. As they say in the disclaimer, this girl won because the judges AND the Miss USA Pageant Organizing Committee wanted it that way. (I wonder who is chairman of the Miss USA Pageant Organizing Committee???????)

They're just pissed because their perfect little blond haired, blue eyed poster child for "Family Values" and "The Sanctity of Marriage" Carrie Prejean just turned out to be another hypocritical tramp that got busted doing the exact same things the "We're oh so much more righteous than you are" crowd claim to be so against. They're now trying to smear Rima for some radio station contest to see who was the best stripper(she was clothed) she won a few years ago.
I think it's awesome that a woman of Arab descent won the crown. Not just because she's a Muslim, which just eats away at the wingers and bigots, but because I think women from that part of the world are smokin' hot !

I happen to have inside information (I am not kidding here)that the "judges" at Miss USA are only shams for Donald Trump who, since he OWNS the pageant, decides who wins. After all, HE pays the winner and she works for him, so who can fault him. I am not saying he fixes the results. No, what I am saying is that he picks the judges and tells them who he wants to win. You can see that is SOOOOO obvious when you watch the judging on TV. (They even have a disclaimer about the judging and tell you right up front about that if you listen or read carefully)
Now, that being said, is picking this particular woman over the other 50 odd cotestants justifiable? You betcha. Was she MY pick? No. But, if I owned the pageant and I paid the winner, I'd want a voice in the decision. Maybe THE voice.
There has been much said over the past several years of this pageant that the answer the "losers" gave cost them the "win". I really don't think that is true based on my above statements. I think that was just a coincidence. Perhaps a fortunate coincidence for the Donald.
Frankly, out of the 50 girls there, a good 30 of them could just have easily won this year. THIS pageant is BIG business and attracts the best and the most beautiful. I am, however, getting tired of every show and pageant and awards telecast having some dude with a damn British accent.
According to Debbie Schlussel's "logic", then anyone with the surname "McVeigh" would be related to terrorists (ie, Timothy). The fact that her name just happens to be Fakih is like someone whose Anglo style name is "Smith" or "Jones". Or Schlussel. Doesn't mean shit.
