Cornyn: Obama Lucky Times Square Bomber is Talking

The Department of Homeland Security made a quick arrest in the attempted Times Square bombing after putting him on the No-Fly list on Monday.

Republicans took no time in finding something to twist into a negative - that the Pakistan-born naturalized U.S. Citizen was read his Miranda rights.  They overlooked the fact that the attempt was thwarted and the suspect was found and arrested swiftly.

Former Presidential Candidate John McCain said that it was a big mistake to mirandize the naturalized U.S. Citizen for the crime committed on U.S. Soil, saying we should have found out how much information he had for us first.  Yes, he is a terrorist.  But he is a U.S. Citizen, and has been given the rights and privileges that entails.  Does he want to stop mirandizing every kid that calls in a bomb threat on SAT day? Love it or hate it, he has the same rights as every other murderer and child molester.  He's as dispicable - but he needs to have those rights extended to him as a way to ensure they'd be extended to your or I in the event that we're accused of a crime.

Upon hearing that the suspect was talking after being mirandized, John Cornyn said, "That is a stroke of good luck, what if he had not waived them and just quit talking, said 'I want my lawyer'?"

Well, Senator Cornyn, that's his right as a U.S. Citizen.  He has a right to a fair trial, where he can be convicted and sentenced to the maximum letter of the law (I hope).  But he still has that right.

Benjamin Franklin once said, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I don't think we're lucky that this guy is talking.  I think we're lucky the bomb didn't explode in the middle of Times Square.  I think we're lucky the Department of Homeland Security caught him quickly.  I think we're lucky that we're the United States of America, where we don't sacrifice our ideals and sink to our enemy's level, despite the seeming desire of Republicans to do so to score cheap political points.

This poor "schlub" got all wrapped up in this "jihadh" thing like those suckers who sit through a three hour uninterrupted presentation on "The Advantages of Time Share". Sad thing, but you must give him credit. He did not sign up to be a "suicide bomber". OTOH, if there was ever anybody who deserves a "Company vehicle" it's a car bomber. Using your own car, you'd think that would be a dealbreaker for most potential jihadists.

It appears that he didn't drink all the kool-aid. He's apparently giving us information on the "training camp" and the faculty. No doubt he failed the IED class. Guess they'll really have to re-evaluate that curriculum now.

Bart, there is definitely love here, just not for consistently ignorant, factually averse, and irrationally incoherent jerks like you.

"DHS only caught this guy because of video cameras that groups like the ACLU oppose"? Izzat so?

Did Rush "I Make Millions Off the Ignorance of Hateful Morons" Limbaugh teach you to mindlessly parrot that WRONG talking point bart?

Um, didn’t the video cameras lead to a White guy bart? Have YOU seen a video image of the bomber, bart?

And nothing like ignorantly dismissing the hard work, dedication, tenacity, resourcefulness, and drive of thousands of law enforcement officials to catch this guy in 2 days. But they are only heroes under a Republican administration, huh bart?

“In the most basic calculus, the success of the investigation of the attempted car bombing in Times Square is measured by the authorities only one way: a suspect was caught and charged, and now faces life in prison if convicted.
But based on interviews and court records, those 53 hours included good breaks, dead ends, real scares, plain detective work and high-tech sophistication. There were moments of keen insight, and perhaps fearsome oversight.”

Investigators discovered the name of the suspect in the failed Times Square bombing because of a telephone number he provided when he returned to the United States from Pakistan in February”

But I have to give you credit where credit is due bart. You are definitely not afraid of consistently making yourself look stupid…over and over and over again.

Nah....you'd miss us. You know you would.

Holy crap! Computer down for 24 hours and then I come back and read this shit and then there is Bart....

Maybe I was better off without the computer???

bingo...

Guys, the basic fact is that right-wingers don't respect the rule of law. That is until it helps their cause. That is why their fake persona is "law-abiding". There is no need proclaim you are, because it is a given...

This is why when a law hinders them and they are in a position to circumvent it, they do so. Then jump up and down and scream when a law blocks them from successfully doing whatever under-handed thing it is they want to do.

Carguy named a few good examples. The evidence is there for everyone to see, out in plain sight. No great mystery or conspiracy, simply look at their track record from Nixon on up.

That is not to say they don't "like" the law. They would just like everyone else to answer to it, while they themselves are immune.

McCain's Admin, if he had been elected, would have been a de facto Bush Administration all over again.

OMG, these neocons are loosing their freakin minds.

what's hysterical here is that to people like bart, the willingness to cornhole the constitution(like the imagery in that one?) is somehow a manhood enhancer. As if the desire to live by the principles and rights set forth in the constitution is a weakness all sissy liberals share.
But take note....in their courageous patriotic zeal they are only willing to trash someone ELSE'S rights, not their own. I don't see them volunteering to allow the police to conduct random searches of their property, tap their phones, or read their mail. Heavens no, that would be unthinkable!

I have to wonder at the patriotism of someone who loves their country so much they are willing to sacrifice someone else to defend it.

Of all the things you have posted this is one of the most accurate. I too respected McCain. He's just a waste of DNA now. If only these old farts would know when to "hang it up".

I don't want you EVER mentioning that again. That breakfast burrito was not nearly as tasty coming up as it was going down.

McCain and Palin......YEEECH! Makes my skin crawl.

I think that must be why Bush seemed to "grimace" last time he took the "oath of office". Check the closeups, he really does grimace when he gets to the part, "defend the Constitution". Looks like he just swallowed some broccoli.

I think I have uncovered exactly what it it that is making the republicans and conservatives in general so mad. That DAMN CONSTITUTION keeps getting in the way they want to run the country.

Watergate burglary, illegal arms sales to the Contras, violations of domestic wiretap laws, illegal imprisonment at GITMO, and that's not even mentioning torture.

That damn constitution (remember "if the president does it it's NOT illegal") is an albatross around the neck of our federal government, as far as "they" are concerned.

Bart has evidently forgotten this, but the rights given by the Constitution (that the rightwing always claims to believe in - but only when it's for their side, mind you) provide the exact same protection for ALL citizens.

Bart, if those rights are taken away from the least of the citizens, they can be just as easily taken away from you.

And there is also something in the Constitution that says..........innocent until proven guilty. John McCain (Grampy Grumpy) and Joe (Weasel) Liebermann have evidently totally dropped those eithics from their minds.

But I know that type of higher level thinking is so hard to grasp for some of you wingnuts. Such a pity.

Damn, Bart, don't you EVER get tired of being on the wrong side of...intelligence?
I guess that 8th grade mindset is contagious, hmmm??

it's sensationalist douchebaggery....and i've lost most of the respect i once had for McCain. He went from being a leader to being just another a-hole with no point to make but a whole lot to say.

not to mention the fact if he hadn't mirandized the guy, the conviction could be thrown out, and they'd be all over Obama for that.

damn Kel.....ouch

sooooo let me get this straight...the rights of a citizen of the united states are entirely dependant on what crime they are ACCUSED of? Well that's just nifty...and the dillholes out there beating their respective breast in rage over the mirandizing of an american citizen are the same ones rampaging about Obama somehow taking away THEIR rights by reforming the health insurance industry?

fakkin' morans...

You give the ACLU a bad rap. If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't have Sean Hannity. When he was saying vile things about homosexuals on air and got fired, it was the ACLU that represented him and got him his job back, and platooned him to national infamy.

Who would think for you if the ACLU hadn't done that?

Isn't this type of "selective application of the laws depending on who you are" EXACTLY what the Founding Fathers tried to prevent by crafting the Constitution?

Amazing how some Republicans leave their so called values behind at the first opportunity to play tough and patriotic.

Pathetic.

Man, John McCain sure is one grouchy ol' sumbeach. Oh, and thanks again, John, for giving us Non-Sequitor Barbie...

Now....let's all have a round of applause that that old jackass mavericky John McCain was NOT elected in 2008. Can you imagine the chaos if he had been?
Jesus. And we'd have had Sarah Palin at his footsteps.
Gives me chills just thinking about it.....

It is obvious that the Republicans don't give a damn about everyone's constitutional rights.
This guy - as nasty as he probably is - is still a U.S. citizen.
And the Republicans are just blackhearted bastards.

It's obvious that if the Republicans had their way, no one would have any civil rights left in this country. They are a disgusting breed of social vermin best left in the dark behind the walls that they build for "protection" from the people.
