Tomorrow, April 4, marks the 46th anniversary of "The Week That Was" on the Billboard Hot 100. For the week of April 4,1964 the Beatles held the top five spots on the charts and 12 of the top 100, something never done before that time or since. The songs and their positions were:

1) "Can't Buy Me Love"
2) "Twist and Shout"
3) "She Loves You"
4) "I Want to Hold Your Hand"
5) "Please Please Me"

31) "I Saw Her Standing There"
41) "From Me To You"
46) "Do You Want to Know a Secret?"
58) "All My Loving"
65) "You Can't Do That"
68) "Roll Over Beethoven"
79) "Thank You Girl"

Amazing.

For those of us who are not as old as others (no need to call names, you know who you are) and may have faint or no memory of the Fab Four, a couple of clips. Can't But Me Love:

And Twist and Shout:

Still good stuff.

Des:

You want to tell everybody the answers???

Des can't play this one. Beatles "trivia" you all might enjoy.

1. What is Paul McCartney's FIRST name?
2. When asked "How did you find Ameria", the Beatles replied what...?
3. That song about "Mr. Kite" ON Sgt,. Pepper...what is the correct title?
4. Name the TWO Beatle's songs whose titles were derived from "Ringo-isms".
5. This is a hard one.....who did Paul replace as bass player?

There was NO BETTER TIME than the SIXTIES. There wilL never be band the equal of the BEATLES.

However, I hope we NEVER forget THE KING.

Humming "In the Ghetto" gets me through a lot of days at work.

Exactly how many of today's popular songs will still be as wonderful in 2050?
I would venture a guess: few if any.
And yet....so many of the Beatles' songs are just timeless.
(Elvis is still good too, y'all!!!)

Well, there are a few of us that are older than dirt and remember the Beatles quite well! I was in 9th grade when they hit America and I am still in awe of their music.

I'm with Shortstuff - their songs are as beautiful now as they were then.

Reminds me of a call in show in Dallas when some guy called in and said, "the top three bands of all-time: number three, the Rolling Stone, number two, the Beatles, and number one (long pregnant pause), Poison." Everyone was laughing hysterically. I am too young to experience the Beatles in their prime, but I did go see McCartney when I was in high school. They are the unquestioned best.

I agree, their ballads were my absolute favorites...Love, Love Me Do; You've Got To Hide Your Love Away; And I Love Her. Even in my old age cynicism and bitterness those songs tug at my heartstrings. That's why I refuse to listen to them...no, not really! That takes me way, way back.

Well Des, I admit to not being old enough to personally remember the older Beatles music but you can thank my older brother for indoctrinating me to ALL their stuff.

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw in the Village Voice (in the 80's mind you!)

"I felt old when I was talking to a kid who had no clue who the Beatles were.

I felt REALLY old when the kid had no idea who Wings were either..." :-)

I don't care what my adult sons tell me, the Beatles rule. They always have and they always will.
There will never be another group like that. Songs us as "Yesterday", "If I Fell", and "Michelle".... (*sigh*) those songs are as beautiful now as they were then.
(In addition to all the OTHER songs on their albums, of course!)

I was in high school in Houston playing psychedelic rock, and marveling at the British Invasion at the time. My brothers and I actually learned how to play listenable music when the Beatles attacked with their blend of infectious melodies and harmonies. We had to fake English accents, wear the boots, grow the hair, and Rock On! It was marvelous fun!!! Get me a damn time machine...
