Aid for Takumi

A close friend brought this story to my attention to help a friend of hers.  Let's see if we can use the power of the Internet to do some good.

Takumi was a graduate student in Japan, taking care of his parents and younger sibling when not in class, until a series of debilitating symptoms began to afflict him.  In January and February, he suffered three heart attacks. In February, he had a stroke.  Born in 1985, Takumi is my own little sister's age.

He was diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect and his condition is severe enough that Takumi required open heart surgery.  When the medical bills came in, his father seemed to blame it on the fact that Takumi is gay and kicked him out of the house in a violent rage.

Since then, Takumi has just been trying to survive to make his doctor's appointments and look for work that can utilize his ability to speak several languages and his training in International Studies.  As a student with no income, he needs our help to cover his medical bills and regain enough strength that he can support himself.

Please go to the website, Takumi's Heart, created by his American friend, Theo, and read his story for yourself.  Take a few minutes to catch up on the News updates and watch the video blogs.  He's doing better than a few weeks ago, but still has a long road ahead.

I know times are tough for many people right now, but I also ask that you make a financial contribution, if you can.  Give up your Starbucks or some other luxury for a day or, even, a week, if you must.  If you know of any groups that might be able to help Takumi more substantially, send a note to: takumisheart@gmail.com

You might just help save Takumi's life.

Christ!

Hi jkug,

Haven't seen you over here for awhile. Should this make me cynical about the internet?

I freaking hate parents that do that to their children. For someone to be so stupid as to choose their own hateful prejudice over their own child is almost unimaginable.
