I hold Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the highest regard because of the good work they do around the world to provide medical care to those in crisis. They are also one of the most effective charity organizations, with administrative costs of only one percent.
Please, help them help those who cannot provide for themselves in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake. Nearly a third of Haiti's population lives in Port-au-Prince. The death toll will continue to rise with the collapse of vital infrastructure, like hospitals and sanitation, so we need to do what we can to help groups like Doctors Without Borders stabilize the situation.

This is one of the few charitable organizations that I trust without reservation. DWOB will continue to get my support.

Right On!
I have supported this organization for years. My donation for the Haiti relief fund was done on-line yesterday. This is one organization that puts most of their money ...($.87 out of every dollar) not into administrative, or other, costs... but into helping people.
I think I also heard (on Rachel Maddow last night) that Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are waiving the fees on these donations. Also, that all the mobile phone companies, with the exception of Sprint -- are also waiving text fees. Little enough to do.
I'm gonna let my 10-year old send the $10.00 via text.
Incidentally, I eat Ramen noodles EVERYDAY. I think I'm staying away from the tap, though. You just can't trust those Russians!
And they have the AUDACITY to say they'll raise fees if we get OUR money back from them?! Did they LOWER fees when they got billions of OUR dollars to help them?
I donated to the docs without borders last night after thinking that they would be the most crucial first response unit to make a difference. Then I read about how much credit card companies skim off the donations, and got royally pissed off. When is the theft of our good deeds and treasury going to stop???
I think it is time to heavily penalize the financial industry for it's brazen attitude. I am fighting mad about it!
I have an old friend who has spent a lot of years as a member of Doctors without Borders. I got a call from him yesterday that he was going down there. I assume he is already on scene and hes my age. If he can do that I can certainly donate something the the relief program. Come on, folks, lets all ante up.
I try not to get all preachy about donating, but I'm gonna get all preachy so be prepared. If you think you have no money to donate but wish you could, do me a favor. Don't buy anything from a vending machine today, save the money you spend on a cup of coffee, don't buy dinner at a restaraunt and eat ramen noodles or a sandwich, drink water from the tap instead of from a bottle - and whatever you didn't spend at the end of the day, send it to MSF or the Clinton Foundation.
My eight year old just gave her entire $25 monthly allowance for January.
