Well known for selling books she didn't write, Sarah Palin's name appeared on an opinion piece in the Washington Post this morning that she also probably didn't write. Why do I say that? Because it was in complete sentences with subjects, verbs, and everything. Does it express her opinions? Absolutely. Why do I say that? Because the piece is simple minded, full of mischaracterizations, distortions, and outright lies, pushing politicized, knee jerk, "conservative" talking points. To wit:
Here it is in print...good luck on deciphering what she is saying:
Palin lovers push the notion that liberals are somehow "afraid" of Palin. It's just simply not so. Palin as candidate is something I would personally love to see. Her candidacy would guarantee an Obama win with probably the widest electoral margin in history, and the entertainment value would be huge. Naturally, her current popularity is up while she is on her fake "bus tour" selling her new book that she didn't write. The media is handling her with kid gloves, and her handlers make sure she does not appear in any uncontrolled scenario.
Oh...why do I call her bus tour a fake? Here's one you won't see on Fox or any other MSM outlet...Palin's not riding on the bus. She's flying in a Gulfstream Jet, only riding on the bus to and from her book signings to appear like she is really on the road with "the people". Which, of course, she is not.
Why are you surprised?
"...the radical environmental movement appears to face a tipping point."This rhetoric is straight out of the right wing play book, pushing the false notion that the science of anthropological (man made) climate change is still an open issue. Rather than proving that man made climate change is not happening, deniers simply lie about the scientific consensus surrounding the causes of the hockey stick in both CO2 in the atmosphere and earth temperatures. I find it interesting that politics is always decried by those same deniers who attempt to make climate science a left/right issue, trying to shut down adult conversation about the crisis. Palin's writer attempts the same in this piece.
"The e-mails reveal that leading climate "experts" deliberately destroyed records, manipulated data to "hide the decline" in global temperatures..."
"I've always believed that policy should be based on sound science, not politics."
"I took a stand against politicized science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population had more than doubled."Again, Palin's writer is politicizing a serious issue concerning endangered species to score points with her base. The assertion of the growth of the polar bear population is false since the only real reason that polar bear population may have rebounded is that federal law stopped their senseless slaughter by "sportsmen" in Alaska. Deniers ignore the ever shrinking sea ice hunting grounds of the polar bear in pushing the notion that polar bears are better off now, therefore we should kill them.
"In the European Union, energy prices skyrocketed after it began a cap-and-tax program."Wrong again. Palin's writer doesn't cite his/her source of this mis-information, but there is lots of propaganda out their claiming that Europe's emission reduction program, begun in 2005, caused skyrocketing energy prices, ignoring the fact that world oil price more than doubled during this time, coming back down in 2009. Additionally, the German Marshall Fund actually found just the opposite of this assertion:
Palin is desperately trying to become relevant in serious political debate when, in fact, she is such a lightweight that she can't even speak in an intelligible sentence. Here's the classic example of her babble-speak, as pointed out by The Young Turks, when Bill O'Reilly tossed her the softball question about her being smart enought to be President:"The EU ETS has not resulted in significant costs to businesses to date, especially when compared to the impact of other factors such as energy price fluctuations and the economic downturn."
Here it is in print...good luck on deciphering what she is saying:
"I believe that I am because I have common sense and I have I believe the values that I think are reflective of so many other American values, and I believe that what Americans are seeking is not the elitism, the uhm, the ah, a kind of spineless, spinelessness that perhaps is made up for that with some kind of elite, Ivy league education and, and a fat resume that is based on anything but hard work and private sector, free enterprise principles. Americans are could be seeking something like that in positive change in their leadership, I'm not saying that that has to be me."If you can understand that, then you have a future in code breaking for the CIA.

*gasp*
But you know, they are all such victims of the evil left wing media! Poor little whiney asses. Too stupid to realize how stupid they are.
I just can't wrap my head around how the rightwinger whackjobs think a summa cum laude degree from Harvard Law School wouldn't trump a journalism degree from - I'm sorry, which matchbook college did she get it from again?
What has happened to make Americans look upon a good education with disdain? Where did we lose the desire for education, for knowledge? When did freakin' Joe Sixpack become the role model for the country?
Hell, I don't have a 4 year degree (so true, folks....not really proud of that, but I'm not ashamed to admit it and I *did* go to business college) but I think I'm more well-read and more intelligent than Palin and I know I wouldn't be anywhere near qualified for politics.
They just make me cringe.
On another topic, did y'all see where Jenny Sanford filed for divorce from the geography-challenged Mark Sanford?
The one character trait common to contemporary American conservatives - Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, Sparkle et al - is their disdain for knowledge. They virtually reek of contempt for intellectual accomplishments. And, because a large segment of America has had that same populist anti-intellectualism for decades, it should come as no surprise to any of us that Palin has a substantial following.
It is hilarious to hear Palin hemming and hawing today in her interview with Laura Ingrham about debating Al Gore. She jokes about how the venue would be anti-Pali and how Gore wouldn't lower himself to debate little old small town ex-Governor Palin. What she must know, even as stupid as she is, is that Al Gore would wipe the floor with her in any debate, held in any place. Which is why it will never happen. But she'll keep the issue in play, making it appear as if she is the victim of liberal attacks. What a piece of work. The GOP deserves her.
You Betcha ! Now all they have to do is find a really good ventriliquist to squat under the podium and do her speeches for her. You know, one who doesn't sound nearly so whiny.
LOL. That's funny. Really funny.
I thought for sure you would nominate her for a "Vogue" scholarship. But seriously folks, she annoys the hell out of me. Her manner "plays on my last nerve." I must confess though, my heart softened just a little when I saw that disrespectful "glamorous sex shot." I don't think it was really her, was it?
Lahdidah,
YEAH!!
The last time I was hearing arguments against political intellectual elitism we were gifted with Gerald Ford. Who(m)?, of course, was mercilessly lampooned by those not graced with common sense.
The poor Polar bear, I suspect that over despair of losing ever more of their natural habitat they've chosen suicide by Sarah Palin rather than continue to struggle.
The global warming debate left my consciousness as a foregone conclusion when every counter argument I encountered contained VP Gore's name in the first sentence.
Hmm, I had no problem deciphering the paragraph (but, then again, I do love word puzzles). Here's what Palin is actually saying: "Stupid Americans like me because I am stupid, too."
Think I could get a job as her English interpreter?
freeportguy, she has nothing to lose (and can still benefit from book sales and speaking engagements) by dipping her toe back into politics. Think about it:
"She can say whetever she wants without having to be accountable to anyone or having party officials and other interests trying to control her, she's able to milk it, and she doesn't have to act on anything she says! And she flies Gulfstream!
Sounds like all of Congress already.
Bunch of freaking wankers.
Bob, I believe she has several "dangling participles" and a couple of misplaced "subordinate clauses". But you, being a writer, are probably a better syntax analyst than I am.
This is a case where "WTF" just really doesn't adequately express one's sentiments.
Boy.....that's pretty amazing, Bob.
She makes Emily Litella from SNL (Gilda Radner's character) look like a "Rogue Scholar."
The sad thing is that the Washington Post apparently believes ex-Governor Palin is a serious person, one having something substantive to add to the debate. I have no idea why supposedly smart, well informed people like Post management would reach that conclusion. Do they not read the reporting in their own newspaper?
I very much believe she is preparing a run for office. In addition, I think the reason we are accused of being afraid of her is not because we are afraid of HER, but because we are afraid of our fellow Americans. What we have seen in the last year is a mentality that Joe the Plumber and Sarah the Hockey mom are just like you and me; and by golly, I am smart, my mom told me so and my teachers told me I could be anything I wanted to be, even President. That is what scares us, not Sarah Palin, but our own next door neighbor.
"I believe that I am because I have common sense and I have I believe the values that I think are reflective of so many other American values"
Funny, I don't recall blaming everyone else for your inadequacies, up and quitting the job you were elected to do, being unable to speak in coherent sentences and setting women back 50 years as being "American Values".
Maybe one morning I'll read about her and her Gulfstream having a Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Big Bopper incident. Santa, are you listening ?
Oh...now that nugget about the fake bus tour is just fucking rich.
I somehow doubt Sarah Palin will ever go back into the political arena, as she has more power now, being on the outside, than she could ever dream of.
She can say whetever she wants without having to be accountable to anyone or having party officials and other interests trying to control her, she's able to milk it, and she doesn't have to act on anything she says! And she flies Gulfstream!
It can't possibly get any better for her!
