Today, John McCain showed his faulty memory again when he chided Senator Al Franken, acting as acting president of the Senate, for shutting down Senator Joe Lieberman as he bloviated about health care, falsely asserting that he was concerned about prople getting health insurance. McCain got irritated, saying,
Lieberman had been helping the Republicans drag progress on the health care bill to a halt by delaying tactics, parlimentiary manuevering and just plain old stalling. Franken, trying to keep proceedings moving, refused, as was his right, to extend Lieberman's allotted time. You have to admit that it was pretty entertaining. Predictably, the Republicans and the entire right wing erupted in indignation today, lead, of course, by John McCain.
As usual, McCain's memory is faulty; at a minimum, it's very selective. Back in 2002, during debate over funding of the war in Iraq, none other than John McCain objected to giving Senator Mark Dayton from Minnesota 30 seconds to finish his remarks. Dayton was defending an amendment from Senator Robert Byrd that restricted GWB's authority to wage war in Iraq. From Think Progress, here's the exchange as Dayton's allotted time ended:

"I've been around here 20-some years. First time I've ever seen a member denied an extra minute or two to finish his remarks. ... I just haven't seen it before myself. And I don't like it. And I think it harms the comity of the Senate not to allow one of our members at least a minute. I'm sure that time is urgent here, but I doubt that it would be that urgent."Here's the entire exchange:

The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator's time has expired.
Mr. DAYTON. I ask for unanimous consent that I have 30 seconds more to finish my remarks.
Mr. McCAIN. I object.
A few minutes later, after Byrd had stepped in to allow Dayton to complete his remarks, McCain objected again to Byrd asking for extra time. After the exchange, McCain said,
I guess the rules only work for the Republicans...not for Democrats."I wish to say very briefly that I understand people have a desire to speak. We have a number of Senators who have not spoken on this issue. It is already looking as if we may be here well into this evening. From now on, I will be adhering strictly to the rules."

He was on GMA again today. Opposing everything of course.
Why don't the Repubs just make it short and sweet? Come out with the (totally true) statement: "We are going to oppose and say NO to every single thing Pres. Obama is for. Our only purpose in life is to make his administration ineffectual...and screw the American people".
I supported this buffoon in 2000. At the time I thought he was better than Bush.
Now I don't think any of them are. Except for Richard Lugar. I still like Dick Lugar.
For now.
The U.S. Senate is becoming just an "old folks home" for rich white guys. A very expensive one. NOthing but a buch a ol' bastards who like to hear themselves talk.
Here's another "thing" we need to revisit IF we ever start another country from scratch.....ELIMINATE the bi-cameral legislature.
(Did I spell that right?)
Is it necessary for me to say I AGREE WITH CAROL? I didn't think so. I really hate to see what this once honorable American hero has devolved to.
I am so sick and tired of this old jack@$$ thinking that everyone is as stupid as Sarah Palin.
I'm with Carol. Send this fool home to his blonde trophy wife....and whichever of their EIGHT homes they choose. Or all of them. Whatever. Just take his microphone away.
SICK SICK SICK of them!
Please send this old man home. He was great before but now he is just an old fool!
Just dumb !
Was he going rogue or being mavericky?
