Governor Perry, Stifle Yourself

Give Bozo the Governor Rick Perry credit for something. He knows who he has to appeal to in his battle for the Republican Party nomination against Kay Bailey Hutchison---the hard-core, rabid right-wing of the party who turn out for the primaries in Texas. And he was in fine form in a speech Wednesday before the Midland County Republican Women:

So let's go down the list and see if Perry hit all the groups on the far-right:

Xenophobes, check. Illegal immigrants are going to first overrun the town of Presidio and then the entire state of Texas. Even though the Border Patrol spokesman for that area said "the plan would not create any burden on the local community." What does he know?

Teabaggers, Tenthers, and town hall screamers. Check, check, and check.

Not much new there, but this one really jumped out at me: "We best know how to deliver health care to our state." Really? I guess Gov. 39% was busy working on his plans for secession and missed this:

"Once again Texas is No. 1 in the nation when it comes to the percentage of its residents who are uninsured. Just over 25 percent of Texans were uninsured in a two-year average calculated at the end of 2008, according to the Census Bureau. That's an increase from the 24.1 percent uninsured rate in 2005 and 2006."

Can we get a volunteer to go to Austin and persuade Perry to shut his yap before he further embarrasses the 61% of us who didn't vote for him, and who recognize what a complete ignoramus he is? I'll buy the gas and the duct tape.

scott i agree. i've been saying for awhile that i am one lib'rul who will be voting "anyone but perry" even if that means kay. it is way too late in the game for dems to scare up a candidate, and i'm still convinced kinky's on perry's payroll to cover his cigars and prozac. kay's not as dangerous as cornyn because in all her years as senator, she basically has had little to no opinion or effect. she does not hold, to my knowledge much in the way of seats on committees and seems virtually unknown to the good ol' boys of the washington republican senate. so in the great words of yoda wisdom, "vote for her i will".

Very good response!
I hate to see Perry's arrogant face on the news. I despised him prior to 2000; I couldn't stand the thought of him becoming governor when Bush left and he's certainly reinforced the low opinion I had of him.
Damn, I wish we still had Molly Ivins.

Dear Lord... another 4 years of Perry? I gotta agree with Carolsb and Lahdidah.... wake me up from my coma.

Sadly, I think that you are probably correct. What a shame for us.

Also, I think he will beat KBH because of the absolute CRAZY distrust of anything Washington here in Texas. I was driving in from Austin yesterday and decided to listen to Michael Berry. . .what a mistake. You should have heard the caller who first refused to call President Obama "President" because he is not her president, and then wanted to know why he was in Asia apologizing for us. Michael Berry then went into a long, protracted saga of how President Obama grew up angry because he wasn't black or white, didn't get to play sports and wasn't raised in a Christian home. That explains the apologizing. WTF???

Just fyi, if you ask him, he will tell you that the 25% that are uninsured are illegals.

I sent this email to a fellow conservative religious biking buddy of mine today.

I enjoyed our conversation the other night. You did let me pontificate moreso. There is one point you mentioned regarding your objection at funding the healthcare for others via a nat'l healthcare insurance reform as being essentially unfair dipping into your money.
Well, I got to thinking about that from a slightly different perspective so I ain't gonna present the same old arguments.
IMO, I think you should be jumping for joy to be fortunate enough that you could help pay for healthcare for the less fortunate. In TX we rank first in the number of uninsured. I can think of few better ways to spend tax money as it certainly fits more with Jesus' teaching to take care of the widows, orphans and poor unconditionally, without exception.
Let me illustrate with a more secular, timely example.

How the US Funds the Taliban http://www.thenation.com/doc/20091130/roston

"Welcome to the wartime contracting bazaar in Afghanistan. It is a virtual carnival of improbable characters and shady connections, with former CIA officials and ex-military officers joining hands with former Taliban and mujahedeen to collect US government funds in the name of the war effort."

I find it interesting that the far-right, evangelical, bible-thumping neocons that waste good tea bags have no objections to spending on war including the waste above or the plane loads of $100 bills flown to Iraq and dispersed to who-knows-where but have an epileptic, gut-convulsing fit when it comes to universal health care for our citizens especially when not doing something about it costs billions in medical and lost earnings that far exceeds the war expenditures. Go figure.

Perry is an idiot. God, where do these elected fools get off? Vote for Mickey Mouse.. you have a better chance of being represented.

I hate like bloody hell that we may be forced to vote for the "lesser of two evils". In a state the size of Texas you would think that we could do better.

Agreed. I'd cast my vote for KBH, myself. There's bad but mostly rational and grounded, and then there's foaming-at-the-mouth nutso.

As arte said, good hair understands the Texas voter and knows what plays best. I really hate voting for KBH but I'm afraid its the only option.

"Not much new there, but this one really jumped out at me: "We best know how to deliver health care to our state.""

Of course we do! The only people who count are those who have decent health insurance. Everyone else - well, they're probably not contributing to the economy of the Great State of Texas, so who cares? Either that, or they're easily replaceable.

Jeez, it's so _easy_ to be a smug teabagger type.

I'm almost at the point of voting in a Republican primary to vote for Kay Bailey. Yes, she is not what I really want in a governor, but the last three, four, or five elections have shown that maybe we can't get that here. I'll settle for sane, but not what I agree with, over the Toni and Guy governor.

Since we've had no luck with the Evil Water Tower, maybe a road trip to Austin would serve to vindicate us in our battle for survival... I'll give Wombat a call and see if we can scrounge an inconspicuous vehicle to accomplish the deed!

Thank you, Kinky Friedman, for imposing this buffoon on us for yet another four years. What an embarrassment this fool is to Texas. But give him credit - he understands the average Texas GOP voter, which is all - let me repeat that, ALL - that matters to Rick Perry these days.

I'm hoping and praying (yes, it has come to that) that the Democratic primary produces a candidate that can appeal to the 61%, we Texas voters who aren't completely nuts.
