Governor Perry, Stifle Yourself

Give Bozo the Governor Rick Perry credit for something. He knows who he has to appeal to in his battle for the Republican Party nomination against Kay Bailey Hutchison---the hard-core, rabid right-wing of the party who turn out for the primaries in Texas. And he was in fine form in a speech Wednesday before the Midland County Republican Women: So let's go down the list and see if Perry hit all the groups on the...
Since Olbermann's one-hour special comment, posted on the Daily Hurricane here, where he called for donations to the National Association of Free Clinics to enable free clinics in the states with blue dog Democrat senators that intend to vote no on the public option. On the November 12 episode of Countdown with Keith Olbermann, he said "Twenty-thousand of you . . . have now donated one million seven hundred thousand dollars since Countdown first brought this subject...

Let Tragedy be Tragedy

Sometimes I wonder what has happened to us as a people. Then, I stop and think about basic human nature and realize the truth. We as people hate uncertainty. Everything must have an explanation to it. When it doesn't, we feel powerless and that is the last thing anyone wants to feel. Simply put, we don't want to be faced with our own mortality. That's what all of this comes down to. If we admit...

Encouraging Signs on Afghanistan Escalation

Following up on yesterday's post, there was some very encouraging news yesterday concerning the proposed escalation of the war in Afghanistan. First, the Washington Post reported that U.S. ambassador Karl Eikenberry:..."sent two classified cables to Washington in the past week expressing deep concerns about sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan until President Hamid Karzai's government demonstrates that it is willing to tackle the corruption and mismanagement that has fueled the Taliban's rise...The ambassador also has...

Guest Post: Honoring a Great Veteran

Guest blogged by our friend, bubbabobcat:In honor of Veterans Day, I would like to acknowledge a soldier and an American who represents the best in us through and through despite the trials and tribulations bestowed upon him by his fellow fallible man.   General Eric K. Shinseki who is a West Point graduate, Vietnam War combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient, rose through the ranks to become the Army Chief of staff in 1999 and...

Another Veterans Day Tap Dance

As we come to this Veteran's Day we are left with the same tap dance that we have had for the past several years. I haven't met anyone that does not respect the troops and their efforts. I don't know anyone that wouldn't agree that we should all thank them for their heroic efforts. Yet, every time anyone steps up to question our foreign policy there are images conjured up of protestors spitting on soldiers...

Honoring Our Veterans

Remembering all those who served:As we honor the heroes of the past, let's not forget those in the present, and the price paid not only by those who go to Iraq and Afghanistan, but those who are left at home. "In Iraq and Afghanistan, our service members aren't the only ones making a sacrifice; military families are bearing the burden as well. Already, more than 600,000 troops have served more than one tour in Operation...
I'm currently enjoying No Ordinary Time:  Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt:  The Home Front in World War II.  It's a nice, light read about those who lived in the White House during the Roosevelt administration and how they affected the president and public policy.  The anecdotes I'm learning from the book are numerous, but one in particular struck me, especially in its comparison to our political climate today. During World War II, in order to ensure...
A senior official is reporting that the International Energy Agency (IEA) has been intentionally underplaying the rate of decline of existing oil fields and overstating the chances of finding new reserves.  The Guardian UK broke the story yesterday, quoted its source as saying that the agency bowed to pressure from the US to overstate deliverability to avoid panic buying in the markets. The IEA reports on worldwide energy supplies and publishes long term forecasts of production. ...
