On a lighter note, and since the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize yesterday pre-empted Friday's music, how about the #1 record on the charts on this day in 1959. Bobby Darin singing Mack the Knife:
Fifty years old and still good stuff.
Fifty years old and still good stuff.

I'll second that one too, amigo! Beyond the Sea was "way out there" lyrically for the times, and then was ousted finally by "I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in". Back in the 60's, Mickey Newbury came by the studio in Houston we were recording my brother's band in (Jones Studio) and offered us the first version of that song because we had a psychedelic band called The Chapparals. We turned him down like idiots, prefrerring to do "our own stuff". I could have kicked myself a million times over, and I freaked when Kenny Rogers and the First Edition did it!
arrrrrrggggh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah but Carol, you know I can sing! Heh, heh...
Heard it. My personal Darin favorite is the title song from the movie, Beyond the Sea
Mr Desperado,
Have you heard Kevin Spacey's rendition of that in his Bobby Darin biopic. Outstanding!
There is a lot of music that is 50 years old and still great. Just by pure chance I heard "Black is Black" by Los Bravos earlier....freaking awesome. 40 year old music can be just as awesome, "These Eyes" by The Guess Who comes to mind.
Bobby Darin....another who died way too young.
Great song! Great singer.
Tread carefully, my friend. Tread very carefully!!
I'll take your word for it, Carol. Since I was just a baby in 1959.
I wish more people could actually sing today!
Thanks, des! I have always loved Bobby Darin (grew up with him, don't cha know).
I wish more songs told stories these days.
