Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) took the occasion of the 44th anniversary of President Johnson signing Medicare into law to call the bluff of the blustering Republicans on their ad nauseam talking points about the evils of "government-run health care" and "socialized medicine."
On Thursday, Rep. Weiner introduced the following amendment, which would eliminate Medicare, to the America's Affordable Health Choices Act::

Guess how many of the highly principled Republican opponents of "government-run health care" voted for the amendment?
You guessed it. Zero.

The irony of all this is Republicans love socialization. Who are the biggest cheerleaders of the military, police, firefighters, etc.? Republicans of course. All 100% purely socialized programs. Does anyone see the absurdity in this reasoning?
Socialized war machines, arresting people, and putting out fires. ACCEPTABLE
Socialized health care? UNACCEPTABLE
Barbie speaks the truth. For every "crook" they catch involved in Medicare/Medicaid fraud, I'll bet three get away with it. WAY away with it.
Is anybody else having trouble reading the characters at the bottom???????
The only problem I see in running a healthcare program is that the government has so much red-tape; is so wasteful and makes it difficult or almost impossible to keep up with and keep things in check..
I think medicare is great and covers well as a supplemental insurance for those that have retired.
There has to be a watch-group where they would monitor those agencies and medical centers so that they aren't billing for services that were never rendered.
There have been wayyy too many fraudulent claims, without the knowledge of the actual patients.
Finally, some Democrats that have some cajones are calling out the right-wing bozos. I salute Representative Weimer.
The DEMS need to keep hammering the fake conservatives about their hypocrisy AND their out and out lies. The Republicans fought against us ever having Medicare just as nastily as they are fighting health care reform...
I don't think it is an accident that one of the highest taxed peoples in the world, the Danish @ 52%, ALSO give their satisfaction with their government the highest ratings. Because the government there uses the tax dollars to BENEFIT the tax PAYERS! Novel concept, eh? (free college education, free health care, 4 weeks of vacation, being the world's "happiest" country according to research reported on CBS's "60 Minutes" TV show, a minimum wage of about $18.00 per hour, etc.)
The US can't have people THAT happy. Our system requires the haves AGAINST the have nots. If Congress did not have the divisions, then, what would be the point of the ever upping the ante from lobbyists? The auction of to the highest bidder would be over if the people were united.
I saw this story on "The Daily Show" the other night. Typical Republican hypocrisy. All we have heard about from them for the last few months is how government run, single payer, socialized medicine will destroy the country, but when given the opportunity to "put up or shut up" and put an end to said evil, government run, single payer, socialized medicine that is Medicare, you don't hear a peep out of them. I also see that the people who organized the tea parties are now going to bus people in from around the country to disrupt any and all town hall meetings that Democrats might be planning to discuss health care between themselves and their constituents during the month long recess. I would like to hope that the police at these events will adopt the same strategy used by the Chicago P.D. during the '68 convention, but then of course, we would just hear more whining about how Obama's "Brown Shirts" and the MSM are silencing the opposition or some other poor, poor me persecution related fable.

Actually, that was a clever move by Weiner. Much like the Congressman from Hawaii passing a bill that celebrated Hawaii, the birthplace of our 44th president. R's were met with a conundrum, diss Hawaii or go on record saying President Obama was born there.
Sweet.
Wow! I guess the AARP Lobby has a lot of clout, or could it be that the elderly and disabled are a large block of voters that neither party could afford to lose. (visioning mob of gray haired ladies and gents with clubs and torches marching through the darkness toward the Capital)
I am VERY disappointed that we did not get single payer healthcare. All the bureaucracy and legalese of this Heinz 57 mess is going to make it so much more difficult than it has to be.
