Welcome to the Daily Hurricane! This website has been established to be a source of news and views about politics, energy, health, science, education, current affairs, as well
as national and international news. We are Houston based, so we also
cover local politics, current affairs, and life in Hurricane Alley.
We are a group of bloggers and users of different backgrounds who have banded
together to read the news of the day and express our opinions in an open, respectful environment
that encourages lively discussion from different political and social
perspectives. To that end, our motto here is "Be Nice or Go Home".
Our website includes news feeds, blogs, and discussion forums to provide a welcoming format for learning, teaching, discussing, and debating the subjects of the day. All opinions and political perspectives are welcome and encouraged. Our only rules are that each user is respectful of others' opinions and actively participate in discussions. Many of us are active on other websites, including the Houston Chronicle's chron.com, which, of late, has become infested with hate speech, bigotry, and racism. The chron's discussion boards are now virtually unusable for open political discussion due the editors' tolerance of users who engage in ad hominem attacks, intimidation, and eliminationist rhetoric that rapidly devolves into sophomoric name calling and anger. We can only conclude that they tolerate such behavior only to increase the hit rate on their pages. Their hits may be up, but certainly the quality of the commentary has hit rock bottom. We know many users who have left the chron for more friendly environs, including those who participate on these pages.

The Chron.com certainly has taken a turn for the worse. After being banned a few times for offenses far less than what I have seen on a daily basis, I am very annoyed with them.
