Today, Barack Obama, in a video to supporters, elected not to take public funds to finance his campaign.  Not taking the money will allow him to raise more money from more people for the general campaign.  Of course, McCain immediately ripped him for "violating a campaign pledge", which of course, he didn't.  What he said back in February was that he would sit down with the Republican candidate and talk about it.  If the Republican...
Updated:  Looks like the censors got hold of the video on youTube.  Here is the direct link so you can watch it at Synthetic Human Pictures.  Fooled you, didn't I?  Here's a new video short that's been going around The Internets this week about all the reasons we should push the Republican party button this November, made by a bunch of independent film makers from Phoenix.  While clearly satirical, it's pretty true to the GOP's...
I started picking up on this a couple of days ago, but finally got a picture this morning of the pin being sold at the Texas GOP convention last weekend in Houston.  For all to see, here it is:  Nice.  Nothing like a little racism to keep the party faithful engaged in the democratic process.  The pins were being sold by the main vendor at the convention and party leaders looked the other way until...
From the Jed Report, a funny video of McCain's Bushian verbal gaffes.  While it made me chuckle, it also made me wince at the thought of four more years of a president staggering from speaking opportunity to speaking opportunity, stumbling and bumbling over printed scripts and tele-prompters.  Geez. This guy is like GWB's big brother.  He is a speechwriter's nightmare....
In a clear example of too much caffeine with their morning donuts, here is a photo of Iowa state police over reacting just a little bit to an angry Cedar Rapids homeowner just trying to get to his flooded house.  Who decides to give morons like these guns and clubs? Geez.AP I guess talking to the homeowner and helping him get to his home is out of the question.  It's easier to smash his truck and...
It was exactly what we feared:  The United States government, dominate super power, one time moral leader of the world, changed radically under GWB and his cronies into nothing more than a third world dictatorship when it came to protecting prisoners' human rights.  In a new report, McClatchy News Service has found that the US detained, and in some cases may continue to detain, many innocent people in Guantanamo and other secret prisons around the...
At a fundraiser in Philadelphia on Friday night, Barack Obama set the stage for how he and his campaign will respond to political attacks from McCain and his lobbyist campaign staff.  The statement came during remarks at the event, which was sponsored by former Hillary endorser, Ed Rendell, governor of Pennsylvania.  After being introduced by Bob Casey, Philly mayor Michael Nutter, and Rendell at the unity event held for Hillary supporters, Obama set the stage...
I'm sure you read about the Supreme Court slapping down the Bush administration on its contention that detainees at Guantanamo had no recourse in the US courts and that they had no right to challenge their detention through the right of habeas corpus.  This contention has been the pillar of Bush's policy toward indefinite detention, military tribunals, and denial of basic human rights to those who have been imprisoned as long as late 2001.  This...

Tim Russert 1950 - 2008

Tim Russert, Washington bureau chief and longest running host of Meet the Press, collapsed and died today at NBC studios in Washington, DC.  He was clearly the quintessential journalist of our time.  I will miss him deeply. Here is Tom Brokaw announcing Tim's death this afternoon.  The announcement is presented in full without further comment:...
Although it's still very early in the campaign, the latest NBC/WSJ poll has Obama leading McCain 47 to 41.  I believe this is the bump that we all expected after the primary wars finally finished.  The last poll was in April, which had Obama 46-43, within the margin of error for the poll.  What's really interesting, though, are the ethnic and voter group breakdowns:  Obama leads with African Americans 83-7 (7? - geez), Hispanics 62-28,...
